We founded Local Kids Safety in 2013 when we heard the shocking statistic that a child goes missing in the UK every 3 minutes.
We conducted research and were struck by sheer panic that sets in when your child goes missing – to the point where some parents told us they couldn’t even remember their child’s name. We’d probably react exactly the same way if our son went missing.
Whilst we hope you’ll never have to use the kIDack, it’s designed to give you peace of mind that should you’re child ever go missing, you’ll be able to respond effectively by having all the vital information to hand.
It’s commonly acknowledged that the US is 20 years ahead of the UK in protecting children. Programs such as Amber Alerts, the Code Adam Alert, and Megan's Law have been part of American culture and legislature for many years and have been successful in recovering several abducted or missing children. The UK has recently begun to use the Amber Alert system, but we still have a long way to go.
Child ID kits have been widely available in the US for a long time and we felt it was important to introduce one to the UK. So, we designed a helpful, affordable child ID kit – the kIDpack – specifically for use in the UK.
We’re firmly committed to providing children and families with the information and tools that they need to stay educated, prepared and most importantly – safe.
We understand there’s no guaranteed way to prevent an emergency, but we believe that kIDpacks can greatly reduce the risks that families face every day. With a kIDpack, you can take a proactive role in educating your child and ensuing you are properly prepared for an emergency.
We do not advise families to use a fear-based approach when educating their children about safety, but we do encourage families to speak with them in a way that they can understand, without overwhelming them. In your kIDpack, you’ll find helpful tips on how to do this safely and effectively.
Finally, we’d like to offer a big thank you to Yateley Industries for the Disabled for assembling our kIDpacks.
About Daniel & Vicky
Daniel and his wife Vicky founded Local Kids Safety is 2013 after finding the ID packs in the US and asking why they weren't available in this country. Having come from a Police background himself and with a former Police Officer in his family Daniel thought the kIDpack would be a fantastic tool in our armoury to help keep children safe. As parents themselves to a young son, Daniel & Vicky knew the blind panic that can arise when you child is nowhere to be seen even for a few moments and how the kIDpack could be of vital use.
Daniel, Vicky and their son live in Surrey.
